Route 7-1 Guide — Punishing Layout & Placement Discipline (PokéPath TD)
Route 7-1 is the first route where “almost correct” setups consistently fail. The layout is punishing and mistakes are costly, so the goal is not perfect DPS—it’s a fail-safe choke: one strong kill zone plus a small recovery layer that prevents a single leak from turning into a wipe.
TL;DR: The Fail-Safe Plan
- Build one primary choke and upgrade it “tall, not wide.”
- Add a leak catcher (cheap recovery layer) before adding more DPS.
- Reserve 1 utility slot for invis/shields/regen/resist pivots.
- Fix by moving units before buying new ones.
Layout Focus: How to Read Route 7-1
1. Primary Kill Zone
Identify tight turns, merges, or the longest straightaway. This is where 90% of your value lives.
2. The "Panic Segment"
The part of the track where a leak becomes unrecoverable. Watch this spot closely.
3. Recovery Layer
Plan a tiny defense zone that catches leaks before they hit the panic segment.
Terrain Plan (Minimal, Stable Rules)
Recommended Role Mix (Route 7-1 Template)
Core (Slots 1–4)
• Single-target Carry: Priority targets & boss pressure.
• AoE / Splash: Pack control.
• Control: Slow/Stun to increase uptime at the choke.
Recovery & Utility (Slots 5–6)
• Leak Catcher: Cheap, reliable unit covering the panic segment.
• Utility Counter (Flexible):
- Invisibility (Revealer/True-hit)
- Shields (Multi-hit/Fast Attack)
- Regen (Sustained Uptime + Status)
- Resist Pivot (When effects don't work)
Upgrade Priorities (Fail-Safe > Greedy)
- Upgrade the carry until normal waves are stable.
- Upgrade control just enough to keep enemies inside the kill zone.
- Only then spend on recovery layer / utility.
- Avoid upgrade dilution: Route 7 punishes "everything at level 2".
Counter Reminders
Invisibility
Reserve a revealer slot; place it early, not at the exit.
Shields
Sustained pressure beats burst-only; multi-hit/fast attacks shred layers.
Regen
Low uptime loses; tighten the kill zone and add %HP/status pressure.
Resistances
If effects fail, pivot quickly—don’t force one plan.
Common Failure Patterns
“One leak turns into a wipe.”
→ You lack a recovery layer. Add a leak catcher before adding more DPS.
“My counter exists but does nothing.”
→ It’s off-lane / too late. Counters must apply on the choke lane (or at the start for revealers).
“I keep adding units and still lose.”
→ Upgrade dilution. Commit gold to one carry + one choke.
