Route 4-1 Guide — First Economy Check (PokéPath TD)
Route 4-1 is where many runs fail even with “good Pokémon”—because the pacing changes and your economy can’t keep up if you upgrade too wide. The goal is simple: stabilize first, then scale, while keeping one flexible slot ready for mechanics counters.
TL;DR: Quick Plan
- Phase 1: Buy coverage, not luxury. One core DPS + one AoE is enough if placed on a true kill zone.
- Phase 2: Upgrade one carry until it’s “safe damage,” then add control (slow/stun) to increase uptime.
- Phase 3: Keep 1 utility slot reserved for invis/shields/regen/resistance pivots—don’t wait for leaks.
Layout Focus: How to read Route 4-1 fast
Longest Time-on-Target
Find the segment where enemies stay in range the longest. This is your anchor.
Mark Primary Choke
Identify a tight turn, merge, or loop. Route 4 punishes “spread out” defense.
Continuous Kill Zone
Ensure you can keep damage applied constantly to avoid regen-style “break contact” moments.
Terrain Plan: Simple Rule
Save special tiles for units that strictly need them.
Carry Priority: Put your carry where it gets maximum uptime; supports can take “good enough” tiles.
When unsure: Default to clustered placement near the main choke. Wasted placements = delayed upgrades.
Recommended Role Mix (Route 4-1 Template)
Core Roles
Utility Slot (Mandatory)
Swap based on what appears:
Rule: Don’t delete your core. Swap the 4th/5th slot only.
Upgrade Priorities (Tall > Wide)
Route 4-1 is where “upgrading everything a bit” loses.
- Step 1: Upgrade your carry until it can reliably delete priority targets.
- Step 2: Upgrade control only after baseline DPS is secured.
- Step 3: Use evolutions as checkpoints (big spike), then fill the missing role (AoE/control/utility).
Common Failure Patterns (and the quick fix)
“I had damage but still leaked”
Coverage gap: move units closer to the choke, add AoE.
“Everything feels slow, upgrades never come”
Overspent early: sell luxury pieces, commit gold to one carry.
“Enemies won’t die / HP goes down then up”
Regen pressure: add slow + status pressure, keep kill zone continuous.
“My slow/stun does nothing”
Resistance/Immunity: pivot utility slot to raw DPS/burst plan.
